Press Releases
Starting out with
one location, the Roberta O. Watts Medical Center on Tuscaloosa
Avenue, our official site count has now grown to
sixteen (16)
locations. The original location at 1117 Tuscaloosa Avenue was
in 2007 with a new state of the art, 16,000 square
foot facility. Our second location, the J.W. Stewart Neighborhood
Health Center is currently under construction to add additional
exam rooms. Sardis City Medical Center, our third location was
remodeled in 2005 and added additional clinical workspace and exam rooms
by adding more than 2,500 in square footage and remodeling the existing
space. Canterberry Family Practice was added as the fourth location
in 1993, followed closely by the addition of two (2) public housing
primary care sites. The public housing sites are now consolidated
into one location in ProCare Colley Homes..
The W.T. Scruggs Medical Center, named after the
late
mayor, opened in 1995 and targeted western Etowah County and Blount
County as its service area. W.T. Scruggs was instrumental in working
with our board to bring a health center to the town he loved. The Quality of Life Health Complex opened in late 1997 and represented
the largest and most comprehensive site ever operated by Quality of
Life, with 46,000 square feet of space and three hundred and
nineteen (319) rooms. In 1999, Quality of Life took over
the operation
of a rural health clinic in Cullman County and in 2003 the site, known as Cullman Quality Health Care, moved into a new 4,500
square foot location. The service area for the site is
Cullman County and its surrounding counties.
Anniston Quality Health Care was funded in late 2000, and the doors
opened in February of 2001. The health center consumed
only a small space in the Anniston Business Center.
Now, the entire
14,000 square feet of space is consumed by medical, dental, pharmacy
and social services. This location treats adult age
individuals affected by PCBs as part of the Tolbert
Health Plan. In collaboration with the Gadsden City Schools, the
Gadsden Family and Student Health Solutions opened in March of 2004.
The site serves all students in the Gadsden City School System and
their families. Medical, dental, health education and mental health
services are available at the Raley Street location.
During early 2005,
Talladega Quality Health Care opened in downtown
Talladega. The project was a result of a partnership with the
Rushing Springs District Missionary Baptist Association in an effort
to collaborate on a faith-based initiative.
In 2007, funding was obtained for
Blount County Quality Health Care
in Oneonta. The site is open, but there are renovations underway in
a different wing provided to Quality of Life by the Hope House and
the Blount County Health Authority. The renovation is scheduled for
completion by October 1st of this year. At that time, the facility
will consist of over 3,300 square feet.
Quality of Life was also funded in 2007 to expand into Cleburne
County, where our new site, the Cleburne
Quality Health Care, opened on February 1st of this year. The
site, in this instance, was donated by the Cleburne County Hospital
Board.
Since the start of 2009, Quality of Life
has opened three additional clinics. In February, Douglas
Medical Center opened in the town of Douglas in Marshall County. QOLHS began operating
Wadley Cornerstone Clinic in Randolph County on April 1st.
Quality of Life Health Services Inc.,
opened Dekalb Quality Health Care in Geraldine on July 1st.
This will be QOLHS's 16th clinic in the network of centers.
The Health Resource and Services Administration (HRSA) awarded
Quality of Life Health Services, Inc., a New Access Point Grant that
provides 1.3 million dollars over the next two years for staffing
and operating the new site. Dekalb Quality Health Care will
initially offer family health care, behavioral health services,
laboratory and health education.
